Rand Mcnally Dock - GPS Tracking Software
If in search of a Global Positioning System, it can be a
benefit to opt for a system that integrates into a handheld palm pilot or
similar system. Perfect for those that already own a PDA device.
After all, what is the point of a GPS navigator if you do
not actually have it with you? For sure, a car-mounted unit is ideal when you
are on the move, but not so good if for example - a rental car is a necessity,
or if you enjoy the outdoors and involved in a recreational pursuit. In these
situations, a portable or hand-held GPS system can be the ideal accessory.
Of course, there is a variety of GPS tracking software
packages, many with similar features, but prior to committing to one, it can
pay to do some research. Here are some of the popular GPS software packages -
Rand McNally's Street Finder is one of the most famous
packages. Split in two distinct ways - either displays a map that had
previously been entered on the system, or switches to a scheduled route and
follows the turn-by-turn directions. One nice feature to the Rand McNally software
is the ability to download points of interest. This is a useful function if in
a new borough and needing a restaurant, grocery store, or gas station.
Rand Mcnally Dock Companion
is a further GPS software package that's user-friendly. In addition to the
usual maps and route display, it is possible to log-on to your position, get an
idea of the distance to your destination, and the speed of traveling.
If on a recreational pursuit, such as mountain biking,
camping or hiking, these little devices can come in extremely handy. For the
mountain bike trip - track the elevation to see if still on course, for the
campers or hikers - program the device to recognize the campsite. This is one
way to make certain of returning to camp before dark sets in.
It is a lesser-known program but still worth looking
at. This map system offers detailed American maps, in addition to a selection
of European maps - 12 countries in total. One key feature to this package is
the ability to scroll from map to map, while still keeping you present located
centered on screen.
